Cows on Campus Cindy Daley, Darby Holmes

“The university systems are failing agriculture in many ways,” says Daley, professor of animal science at Chico State. This is why she spearheaded a project to develop an organic, grass-based dairy on 85 acres at the university. The dairy celebrated its inaugural milking in March of 2007, becoming a member of Organic Valley. Hear how Daley and Holmes, the farm manager, are offering the only university-based organic research and education facility in the western U.S. A professor at Chico State’s College of Agriculture, Daley is faculty supervisor of the Organic Dairy Teaching and Applied Research Unit. Holmes is the organic dairy farm manager for Chico State’s dairy farm.
